Primac Services Layer (PSL)

With the Primac Services Layer (PSL) you can seamlessly include PRIMAC in a Service Oriented Architecture infrastructure. PRIMAC can act both as a consumer and supplier of information and data via standard web services

This means that if you are running PRIMAC in addition to other enterprise systems, you do not have to create batch feeds to transfer information between systems, and they only allow you to transfer data, what about the processes? Starting with Rev14 of PRIMAC, services can be created to provide information to other systems and also to execute PRIMAC processes.

PSL also allows PRIMAC to be used in a Business Process Management framework such as WorkflowBP.

We have included a number of servies in PSL starting with Rev14 and more are being added to support the integration of core PRIMAC with external modules that we have developed and our customers are using. Such as

• Job Create/Update/View
• Viewing Estimates
• Updating Job information related time & materials
• Inventory functions to create purchase orders, reserve materials, view inventory status
• And more...

SOA Background

Services Oriented Architectures are the basis upon which Business Process Management solutions are built. Services enable external systems to have access to data and processes without the need to know the the technology implementation or the platform. There is no need to know whether the system is based on .NET, Java, U2, SQL, Oracle or any other development technology - the consumer of the Service does not need to know or learn any proprietary technology.

With Services it is no longer necessary to create customized feeds between systems to transport data, which becomes stale and old as soon as it is transfered anyways. There is no need to learn languages and understand internal implementations to retrieve information. Services present data in a standard XML like format that can be understood by any system.

PRIMAC's Revision 14 now includes it own service layer that is based on the standard Web Service Technology. Our service layer or Primac Service Layer (PSL) enable external systems to perform a number of processes in PRIMAC and also provide access to PRIMAC's data. For example:

• If you need to update job information in PRIMAC based on what is entered in an external system such as your order entry web site, there is a service available for that If you want to retrieve the Estimate information, there is a service available for that If you need to cancel a job automatically based on an external action, there is a service available for that
• If you want to retrieve customer information that is accurate and up to date at the exact time of retrieval, there is a service available for that
• If you want to retrieve the list of material reservations that are part of a job, there is a service available for that

These and many more services are part of the Primac Service Layer. There are services available for JCS, ICS, JES and other modules and new ones are continuously being added.. These services can be included in your workflow to constitute a comprehensive business process that does not require human intervention to move information between systems. There are zero changes of errors due to retyping and an exponential increase in productivity.
